How To Dress for Your Family Photoshoot

in florida

A family photoshoot is a special occasion that captures memories that will last a lifetime. It is important to choose outfits that will not only look good in the photos but also make everyone in the family feel comfortable and confident. After booking your session, you’ll receive an in-depth style guide full of additional information and resources. Here are some tips on what to wear for a family photoshoot to get you started:

1. Choose a Color Scheme

Selecting a color scheme for the photoshoot will make it easier to coordinate outfits and create a cohesive look. You can choose a monochromatic palette or choose a few complementary colors that will look good together. Make sure to stay away from bright colors and busy patterns or items with visible logos, as they can be distracting in photos. Earth tone (pictured below) photograph best with my editing style!

2. Dress for the Location

The location of the photoshoot will influence what to wear. If the photoshoot is taking place at the beach, for example, flowy, casual outfits would be appropriate. Sand in Naples, Fort Myers, Bonita springs and Marco Island is very white so I recommend primarily wearing medium to dark browns with a few pops of color (earth tones). If your session is in Venice, Sanibel or Captiva Island, where the sand is grey, go for creams with a few pops of color (earth tone). Example below:

3. Consider the Season

The season in which the photoshoot takes place will also influence what to wear. In the warmer months, lightweight and breathable fabrics like cotton and linen are ideal, while in the colder months, heavier fabrics like wool and flannel can be worn.

4. Choose Flattering Styles

When choosing outfits, consider the body type of each family member. Opt for clothing that flatters each person’s figure, and avoid anything that is too tight or too baggy.

5. Accessorize

Accessories can add interest and depth to a family photoshoot. Consider wearing hats, scarves, jewelry, and other accessories to add some personality to your outfits. I have hats in every color imaginable and a jewelry box that I bring along to every session. If you don’t have time to find accessories, I got you!

6. Hair and Makeup

Pay attention to the details including your hair and makeup. If we’re shooting on the beach it could be a bit windy. Consider braiding a few strands to keep hair controlled and out of your face. Professional makeup is also a great way to pamper yourself before your session.

When preparing for a family photoshoot, it is important to choose outfits that are comfortable, stylish, and appropriate for the location and season. By following these tips, you can create a cohesive and memorable look that will be captured in your family photos for years to come.
