Summer is the season for storms here is Southwest Florida. I didn’t know when I decided to become a photographer that I would also have to become a weather expert. My first summer shooting here almost traumatized me. Luckily I stuck it out and soon realized that these wild evening storms really only occur during the summer months. I have since grown to love this moody look and welcome the dark grey clouds. So much so that another photographer recently said, “storms are your thing!”
This Chicago family was visiting Naples, Florida on vacation and booked me for a photoshoot. They had seen some of my stormy sessions before and shared that they were totally okay with this look. It’s a good thing, because that’s exactly what they got! We did this entire session in about 20 minutes and by the end, we were completely soaked. It was one of those flip-the-umbrella-inside-out kind of storms but it led to an amazing product that I was more than excited to deliver to them.
Photographer Pro Tip:
This little device has been a life saver for me. Just slip it over your camera when you’re shooting in rain or in the water for a layer of protection. Trust me, it’s way better than holding an umbrella and shooting one handed.
