Fall is a little different in Naples, Florida. Our leaves don’t change to vibrant shades of red and orange. And our temperature doesn’t drop down to a more comfortable degree. Our warm climate does create the perfect environment for plants to bloom. My favorite is Muhly Grass. The fuzzy blossoms are first pink and then fade to a light peach before falling off the plant. This session took place the last week the blooms were present. This particular spot truly showed off their splendor as the golden light flooded through the fluffy blooms.
I hadn’t even planned to shoot at this spot. After arriving at the location and checking out my go-to spot, I saw that most of the grass in that area had already lost its blooms. And because of the direction the sun was setting this time of year, we would be in the shade for most of the session. The light would be easy, but it wouldn’t be as magical without the golden sunlight. I walked the area and came across this little spot. I check my sun app to see exactly where the sun would be by the time my clients arrived and decided this was where I wanted to start the session.
Like most of my sessions, we moved to a couple of different spots before finishing. I love to give my clients a gallery full of variety when possible. I typically scout locations that will allow this.
Mom and daughter are both wearing items available in my client closet. I always bring some blankets to add a sense of “cozy” to the session. Faux-fur just felt right for this one!
I love the dappled light on Sophia’s face in the black and white image. She was picking flowers as we walked from one spot the the next.
The moon came out to play at the end of the session and I knew I had to capture it.
